Cloth Paper Scissors DOLL

Did you see the crazy wacky doll pattern in the latest copy of Cloth Paper Scissors? Well I am not a doll maker... but I do love funky looking women...have done a lot of art quilts with funky unique women featured so I just had to try and make this doll. The pieces are long and skinny and very hard to turn. She lost her thumbs in the turning process. If I thought turning the pieces inside out was hard...stuffing them was even harder...and then trying to slip stitch up the holes and still keep the stuffing in was another unique experience. After stuffing you paint her. The paint soaks into your fabric...and it takes for ever to dry. But the finished pieces are wonderful...I see so many different characters. I see adjusting the pattern for different shaped women. There are so many possibilities.

Here is my first effort...still needs a face, her clothing, and her body connected:

My suggestions for the future:
* I would replace the side opening for turning on arms and legs to the top area where they are connected....those side openings are really tough to slipstitch closed and keep the stuffing from hanging out.
* I would paint with gesso before adding a paint cover...less soaking in of paint. (I am also thinking why not use the fabric the color you want the doll in the first place?)

She is a real cutie...so I recommend if you get the issue try it...you may become hooked.

the curse has been broken

The curse has been broken...the sewing room is now OPEN and messy again. I am doing a 12 by 12 art quilt class in February for our local Cultural Art Association. I have to have samples of what I hope to teach. I came up with a choice of sea creatures that they could use and have finished up one sample. I had to keep in mind that my students aren't art quilters, they don't do free motion stitching and they probably don't have a stash of fabrics to choose from. I am going to take my bags of GoodWill Clothing in as fabric choices for them to use. All they will need is a blue piece of background fabric. Now on to sample two. It is good to be back in the creative mood.

Creative Slump

Have been in a creative slump...haven't even sat in my sewing room, in fact the last time I went in there was over a month ago when looking for a pair scissors. I have lots of ideas scribbled down, have pages dog earred in my Quilting Arts magazines with techniques I want to try...just missing the desire, the want. I look around the house and think...I need to clean, I need to go through closets, I need to do this or do that. I want to redo my kitchen...but dread the mess, the spending of money...so what do I do...I sit and think of all the things I want to do. I don't think its a depression thing, its more like a lazy thing. I am hoping that soon something will light a fire under me and get me started...a force is definitely needed...am hoping it occurs soon. I think that if I can get started again, I will feel better physically...you know a body moving is so much better than a body just sitting...It has always been in the past that if I put something down in the blog it helps me to create. Let's hope that still works.

SIL catches the BIG ONE

My son in law while out in his kayak caught a King Fish on a fly rod. It took him about 15 minutes to pull him in. (Remember he is sitting down in the kayak while reeling in this fish.) Here is the proud fisherman.

IPHONE

Have watched my thirteen year old grand daughter with her Iphone...it does about everything...it even has a flashlight! I have never been a cell phone person....I have survived with a 6 year old cell phone that stays in the car and is only used for emergencies. It isn't even turned on in the car as I would never try to answer it while I am trying to drive. (NO chance of that as no one has my number, not even me... have it written down on a card that is in my wallet. So if it ever did ring it would be a wrong number.) I can't even remember the last time I received a call on it, (in fact I don't think I have) I am not even sure if I would even know how to answer it. It has been a long time. Most of the time I forget to even hit the SEND button when I do try to make a call.

So what am I getting at you ask? I love gadgets, I love technology, and after playing with my grand daughter's Iphone....I just had to have one. Did I tell you it plays music too? It even can take pictures. I had a 43 year Wedding Anniversary this month...so I treated myself to one. I am going to join the modern world....I am going to pass out my cell number...I am going to keep the phone on...will not answer when driving...but this phone can take messages for me and then will read them back to me. This Iphone wasn't on my "BUCKET LIST" of things to do or things I wanted, so I added it, so I could cross it off my list. Pretty Smart for a 65 year old oldie, hun?

Anyway, now I have to wait for it to become available...you would know that I would choose a hot new phone that just hit the market and is in big demand. I am now on another list.... a waiting list...will be called when my name comes up. Hope it is soon.

Today marks 43 years of marriage for me.
