The Counters are COM-ing

The counter guys arrive Wednesday to start removing the tile and the old counter tops. We will be without a sink for a few days starting Wednesday. My new appliances are in the house. Stove is in middle of floor...plugged in. Told the hubby that it can't work real well since it is in middle of floor so we need to eat out at least once a day. I think he knows I'm full of it"...but he did take me out to eat today.

Once counters are removed...template guy comes in and makes the template pattern...then the quartz is cut...while that is being done...Backsplash tile guy comes in and removes the backsplash...which is stuck on the wall and then will put up new board and then tile....The counter folks return and install counters..Tile man returns and starts tiling backsplash...with those "million dollar" glass tiles I picked out. Of course the tiles I chose cost an arm and leg per square foot, and tile man said they are labor intense to install...so am spending a small fortune on just little chunks of tiles. But hopefully it will be worth it.

As far as my new appliances go...they each came with a manual about a 1/2 inch thick. The only manual I didn't have to study was the refrig. The stove wakes up when touched and then goes back to sleep if not used. I think my hubby just enjoys watching it come alive as he touches it everytime he passes it. I shouldn't talk I sat in front of my new front loading washer the first time I used it and watched it like it was a soap opera...my old fashion washer clunker seems medieval now.

It will be great to get a really new kitchen....will post photos later.

Umbrella Man Complete

The Umbrella Man with the very small head is complete. I did take a few liberties with the original watercolor. I changed the colors and also the position of the umbrella. I wanted the SMALL head to show and in the original the umbrella really distracted from the head. It was a fun piece to do...

Umbrella Man

While I wait for counters and rest of the appliances to arrive I started a new project.

I volunteer at our local elementary school. I work with a class of third graders and teach them PowerPoint. I was walking down the hall just before Christmas and was looking at all of the children's artwork hanging in the hall. My eye caught the following little watercolor by a second grader. I fell in love with it. (note the small head) The little umbrella man just cried out to be turned into an Art Quilt. I got both the child's permission and his parents to use his piece of artwork and have begun to work on it. The original piece was about 8.5 X 11. My piece is about 16 X 20. will post when it is completed.

Kitchen Remodel

Am very excited to report that my old kitchen is getting an update....I purchased all new stainless steel appliances...replacing cabinet knobs and hopefully will get new counter tops. One thing that we changed....we got new chrome cabinets drawer inserts that pull out....they were a little pricey but are they handy. No more leaning over and looking for items pushed to the back of cabinets.

Today I was a wee bit frivolous...went a little wild....I wanted a new washer and dryer...mine are still working but needed tender loving care when going into a spin cycle and the dryer needs numerous restarts to achieve fully dried clothes.. I think the heat element may be on the way out....so my husband said go for it....and go for it I did.....note the wild color. How could laundry be a chore with the bright happy appliances looking at you? The dryer even has a steam cycle to remove wrinkles and freshen up bedspreads, curtains, etc.
