Been Away

Sorry to say...I have really let my Wanna Be Blog down as far as postings. I moved my art to a different blog and right now my interests are with card making and learning the various things you can do with paper. I still am playing with fabric but not as much. I did spend a day learning how to marbelize fabric and have a month long show in Panama City that are featuring some of my pieces.

Happy Birthday Card Challenge

Another Card Challenge with Cooking with Cricut and this week I added the challenge from the Pink Stamper. Both sites had Birthday Challenges. BTW I love the videos that Pink Stamper does...since I am new to card making they have been very helpful. The Pink Stamper Challenge was already closed...I guess I didn't read very carefully.

The Pink Stamper Challenge was Birthday. The Cooking with Cricut was a Birthday Card using their design plan and also using Peachy Keen Stamps if you had them. I checked out those stamps and they are darling but I don't have any because I don't have any cartridges that would use them. As soon as I get the Paperdoll card or the Once Upon a Princess those stamps would be "a for sure" item to have.

Here is my card...
I used pop up pads on the Happy Birthday Greeting and on the smaller flower. I really liked having a Design to follow, as a newbie sometimes I find I get too involved with my design and Simple is really better. This card will be going to my friend Mary. I have also order some stamps with Greetings on them so my cards will look a little more polished.

Again, I can't thank all of you who take the time to make tutorials and videos for those of us just learning. I love them and really appreciate all the hard work.

The # THREE

Another Challenge from Cooking with Cricut...this time we had to include three flowers made with a Cricut Cartridge...I really thought I might have to pass on this one, because I have limited cards, but looking closer as my collection of two, I found a flower on my George Card. I was unable to accept the second part of the challenge to use the sketch plan that they suggested. I didn't have any stamps that I could use for adding words small enough on the card. I have put those greeting stamps on my list of things I want. I have been spending too much time watching videos on card making and also have added ribbons to my list...it seems there are lots of ribbons added to cards and it really makes the cards pop.

My card is done on black card stock that has been run through my Cuttlebug using an embossing folder. The orange background was embossed also. My pot that holds my flowers is a from a sample that I made at an acrylics workshop. The flowers are from the George Card. I used a popup button on each flower. I used a strip of paper in place of a ribbon. I think I will use this card as a Thank You Card. after glueing and layering all the papers and cardstick these cards can get a little heavy

Here is a picture:

I really enjoying visiting all of the blogs and checking out everyone's work...I am making up a list of "must haves"...this hobby can get expensive can't it?

Gliitermania Challenge # 2

Another Challenge. I am so glad I found http://cookingwithcricut.blogspot.com/ because their weekly challenges are making me experiment with my Cricut and my cuttlebug. I enjoy visiting the Chefs webpages and also seeing what others are doing with the challenges.

This week challenge was Glittermania. I love shiny things and especially glitter!!

This week I made my own cut file...I took a piece of public domain clipart and using my SCAL2 software broke it down so that the cricut could cut it out in different colors. This week I used a cute little owl as my focus subject. There were cut feathers on his chest in the clipart but I haven't managed to figure that out in the software so I changed the clipart and removed the feathers.

I hope my images show my glittermania work.

This close up shows my branch and my glittered letters.

and my finished card

The background of the card is a textured piece of scrappaper that I glittered around the edges. The owl is sitting on a branch of a paper I made in a 3 day workshop on using Golden Paints in different techniques. One workshop was called Bling=Bling...and we did a lot of papers for collage so I used a small piece for the branch. The lettering was cut out on Cricut and then glitterized. the hearts are texture stickers.

BTW thanks for all the nice comments on my first card last week!!! If anyone wants a copy of my SCAL2 cut file I would be happy to email it to you. I have appreciated all the Freebies I have collected by visiting all the various sites. They all help me understand the different features and techniques of both the cricut and the software since I am limited with only owning two cards. My little collection is growing and growing thanks to all the wonderful sharing of talents.

My Snow Card

I received a Cricut and a Cuddlebug for Christmas. i wanted to use them in my fiber arts and my journaling adventures. I have never been into scrapbooking even though I take a lot of pictures. I don't have the money to spent on Cricut cartridges (some are almost $90 a pop) so I decided that I would purchase a software program that allowed me to make my own cut files and create fonts that are already installed on my computer.

Short Story...the card making is rather fun. It really allows you to make a personal statement and use your creativity. As I was searching the web for ideas I came across the following site, Cooking with Cricut Com ( http://cookingwithcricut.blogspot.com/2011/01/1st-challenge-of-2011-new-dt.html )

They were having a challenge...make a card that had to deal with Snow. I live in Florida...we don't have snow...we do have cold weather, but snow ....no way. I only have two cartridges, the George and one called Splish Splash...neither one relates to Snow. So I had to use my software to get my card design.

The blue cardstock on my card was run through my Cuddlebug and embossed with swirls. My snowman was originally a piece of public domain clipart. I took it into the software, broke it down into parts, and then turned it into a cut file. I used black cardstock, orange cardstock and white cardstock for the snowman. The large snow flakes were also clipart which I resized and then cut with the Cricut from silver metallic cardstock. The eyes, mouth and buttons were added on with a black marker. The snow is white acrylic paint and of course there is glitter, a card without glitter would be a very sad card indeed. My grandkids always look forward to Snow Days because it means no school...so my card is called Snow Day. I had lots of fun making it and enjoyed the whole process. I was pleased with the way it turned out.
